Bubbly - Blueberry Scented Bubbles

Appearing like a "jolly" kid's toy, this artwork questions what necessity means in the Anthropocene. While the front facing part of the work appears friendly and "bubbly," the visually vacant back embodies an analogy for unnecessary consumerism. The colouring of the item, the imagery and physical components are all synthetic, non-representing of any natural aspects of life, rather portraying our hyper-consumerist era.Inside the packaging, there is a blue toned plastic vessel in the shape of a frozen dessert. Poorly sticked on, sits a blue face sticking its tongue out, evoking playfulness, calling direct attention from the viewer. While the object is visually inviting to be consumed, a warning in the back indicates the fact that it is unsafe for consumption-with intent to create confusion. Priced at $1.50, the product is meant to serve as a form of entertainment affordable to all. Signifying the price of momentary entertainment in exchange for years of non-degradable pollution.
